In times of great uncertainty people look for leadership and direction to the State and the various layers of Government. In our fast-moving ever-changing world this becomes more nebulous.
With the presence of Coronavirus we are suddenly aware the fragility of Governments, economies, of communities and people the world over. We will emerge from this but to a very different landscape, one hopes, of new challenges and opportunities. It is a time of devastating grief and sadness, a time of much reflection, self-examination and soul-searching.
We will more than ever need decisive leadership and statesmanship moving forward.
But what we also deserve is dialogue between all good people to find ways of establishing a new order to raise awareness and raise the vibration of all souls. Why should we accept the status quo? We are, during this devastating Pandemic, hearing of heroic acts of often disregarded unsung heroes. People who put their lives at risk on the line in their acute sense of duty, dedication and consummate professionalism. It should humble us and, perhaps more so, realise that there are many groups of working people throughout the land who are not rewarded for their efforts and value to society at large. I would say compare this to the…….but, the list is endless!
Think of the excesses of the world of “Celebrity” or the flawed and failed hedonistic Finance and Banking culture, the underwhelming achievers of the Bonus culture, the obscenely rewarded egocentric “Stars” of Television and Sport to name but a few.
What about the people who really underpin society who have untold gifts, working tirelessly for the common good! Where are the rewards for skill, endeavour and dedication, the rewards for loyalty and ingenuity? Now would be a good time to re-establish the social and ethical values of democracy. I am sure there could be a very different path for many, but it is hidden by our propensity to accept enslavement through Consumerism, Materialism and Capitalism.
We are used as pawns but worse than that, we are treated as Gulls!
As a people we so deserve the change that recognises and rewards all good people. We are a Nation and we have all fought at some time of our lives and beliefs. Properly harnessed we, as indeed all Nations are capable of, raise our vision for the future, aspirations and hope.
We have a shared history yet diversity and we have the opportunity to come together to channel our diverse energies for the good of all. There is a humility in all things good and a justice in sharing rewards equitably.
Amongst this human tragedy which is Coronavirus, many of us have had time which, often for some, is rare. Time to walk and to think, time to rest. I wandered through a local churchyard on one of our many walks recently and became immersed in its tranquillity and solemnity. The gravestones offered a timely reminder of past lives, illuminating both benign and heroic tales. They instilled great feelings of sadness yet light and gratefulness, but more so, emotion and knowing. Are we not all, at some time in our lives, surrounded by sorrow and grief and of deep emotion? Although a muted sandstone memorial, one told a story so real and memorable, I have visited it several times since. Three young men of the same family and Battalion lost in battle in World War 1 and another lost in a Wartime air crash nearer home. Four young lives taken in the senseless act of war and families torn apart in grief. There were numerous memorial stones with similar poignant and moving tributes to people lost in war and peace and you cannot but think of the fragility, often tragedy and cruelty of life. Stories of selfless dedication to others, of great deeds and solidarity. It was very real and very sad. Confrontation, inequality, division and hostility! Is this the life we were are all to live or is there a new path just waiting for a defining moment of communion?
Many have lost faith and the significance of meditation and prayer, have become exclusive and not inclusive, in sometimes what seems a Philosophical abyss!
Materialistic, selfish, divisive, dismissive, hedonistic descriptions seem quite appropriate in narrating the descent into a consumer-driven capitalist society. It is one that is neglectful of poverty and social responsibility. It robs less fortunate souls of faith and hope and thwarts aspirations and dreams. It is a time therefore for sharing and equalisation. It is a time for showing that we care about people and place, showing that we can share natural and man-made resources and showing that we have a collective duty of care for all our rich natural world.
If we have a collective spirit and a new understanding of the meaning of raised energy and vibration, we may appreciate each other, our Planet Earth, and save us from impending implosion and disaster.
